SSI: Your First Choice
for Fuel and Propane Software
We
built our first software program in 1978- the era of the Mainframe computer.
In those days, a night operator did a reel-to-reel backup of the previous
day's transactions and recompiled the program. The reels were reviewed
by development staff the following morning.
Our first module, SSI Accounts Receivable 1.0 was written in a language
known as Cobol. It was cumbersome and difficult to work with; it was even
more difficult for the end-user to learn.
We had four full-time programmers who worked on the application for more
than a year. In 1980 we took it to market and created a Service Bureau,
which did monthly billing. This $365,000 investment had almost reached
break-even point, when a couple of young men built something in their
garage called a PC.
We learned a lot from that costly beginning, and in 1983 we began designing
the Fuel Industry's first Accounts Receivable program built for a micro
computer.
Currently, our company sells software throughout the United States, US
Territories, Canada and Mexico. Our next planned expansion will include
service in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
